Blacksmithing Demonstration

Come watch a blacksmith in action at Colvin Run Mill Historic Site from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. For information, call 703-759-2771.

Kayak Trip, Fort Washington, MD

Cool off on a three-hour kayak excursion across Piscataway Creek. Paddle to a secluded beach and wade in the water or relax in the sun. This trip is for beginners and seasoned paddlers. The $99 fee includes bus, kayak rental and guide.  703-222-4664.

Queen and King Snakes

Walk waterways in search of queen and king snakes at Ellanor C. Lawrence Park from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Softshell crayfish is on the queen snake’s diet, and the queen snake is on the king snake’s diet. Wear shoes that can get wet. Prepaid reservations are required by 6/27. This program is suited for children ages eight and older and the cost is $5 per child. Call 703-631-0013.

Acoustic Jam

Whether you’re pickin’, strummin, or just listenin’ – it’s an old-fashioned knee-slappin’, finger-poppin’, toe-tappin’ good time! Bring your instrument or come by the Frying Pan Farm Park Country Store to enjoy this free, drop-in session from 1 to 4 p.m. For information, call 703-437-9101.

Northern Virginia Carvers

The wood carvers lend their tools and expertise as you create a creature from a block of wood at Colvin Run Mill from noon to 4 p.m. This program is appropriate for ages 6 to 96. Tour the mill and see the larger-than-life wooden miller. The lesson is free. A nominal fee for wood blanks is charged. Tour cost is separate. For information, call 703-759-2771.
