War Comes to Walney

Experience Civil War camp life recreated by the 42nd Virginia Infantry Regiment at Ellanor C. Lawrence Park from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Glimpse the daily routine of the soldiers who once camped at Walney and in Centreville. Young recruit candidates can participant in military drill and learn hands-on about the lives of young men and women during the war. This is a free event. For information, call 703-631-0013.

Pinecrest Club Championship

Golfers ages 13 years and older compete in an 18-hole individual tournament with flights based on front-nine gross scores starting at 8 a.m. Prizes awarded in each flight and closest to the pin for both nines. The cost is $50 per player (excludes riding cart). A nine-hole optional shootout for the top 10 loss gross scores follows the tournament for an additional $10. Advance registration required. Slugfest: Slime of your life!

Hidden Pond Nature Center unveils the world premiere of the play “There Will Be Slime,” the story of a ruthless pesticide tycoon and his battle with the slug-loving singing star Hannah Slugtanna, from 10 a.m. to noon. Other activities include: Bailey’s Slug Kissing Booth, Sluggo’s Slug-on-a-Spoon Contest, Slug Foot Massages by Olga, Slime Art, Slime Tossing and Slug Racing. Oh, and Hannah Slugtanna will sing some of her degraded hits with her backup band, The Rolling Snails. Refreshments will be available. Reservations are required. The cost is $6 per person.
