Hispanics in the American Revolution

The recreated Spanish Louisiana Regiment presents scenes of 18th century military and civilian life at Sully Historic Site from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., including musket and cannon firing. A parade of fashion highlights uniforms, and women's and children's clothing.  Furia Flamenca adds excitement with flamenco dancing. The cost is $6 per adult and $4 per child. Call 703-437-1794.

Scarecrow Making Workshops

Bring an outfit and a pair of pantyhose for each scarecrow you make at Frying Pan Farm Park Visitor Center from 1 to 2 p.m. or 2 to 3 p.m. Prepaid reservations required. The cost is $7 per scarecrow; $5 per additional scarecrow. For information, call 703-437-9101.

Woman’s Handiwork: Stitches in Time

Artist and collector Caroline Hottenstein displays her collection of antique hand-sewing tools at Historic Green Spring from 1 to 3:30 p.m. See examples of antique lace, embroidery, linens, beadwork and clothing and hear about the historical importance of needlework. Choose only the program or follow the program with either a full English tea or a basic embroidery lesson. Materials provided. Historic Recreation

Learn about different games and pastimes and then try them out at Cub Run RECenter from 3 to 4 p.m. Reservations are required. The cost is $3 per person. 703-817-9407.

MPAartfest

From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. the MPAartfest (Mclean Project for the Arts) will transform McLean Central Park into a lively landscape of mini-art galleries showcasing and offering for sale the work of 40 juried artists. Stroll through the Children’s ArtWalk to admire the work of artists from McLean area schools. Budding artists can create their own works of art at the Children’s Art Tent. Talented seniors will showcase their artistic talent in the New Dimensions exhibit, and adults can learn about contemporary art concepts at the ArtSmart Tent. The Gazebo Stage will be swinging with a variety of live performances. Admission is free. Parking and shuttle buses available. Introduction to Fly Fishing

Bring your own rod and reel to Huntley Meadows Park from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and learn casting, knots, tackle and gear, fly selection and how to read the water. Reservations are required. Participants must be 14 years or older. The cost is $50 per person plus $5 for supplies. Rods and reels will be available to rent. Call 703-768-2525

Bread and Honey

Beekeepers Toni Burnham and Patrick Standiford demonstrate the process involved in harvesting honey at Colvin Run Mill from 2 to 4 p.m. Sample honey on cornbread made from our cornmeal. Cardinal Flowers and Goldenrods

Stroll with a member of the Virginia Native Plant Society to view splendid fall wildflowers along the stream and meadow by Cabell’s Mill in Ellanor C. Lawrence Park from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Reservations required. The cost is $5 per person. Call 703-631-0013.

Art Show Opening “Connections”
