Friday, November 13 Travel to Blackwater Wildlife Refuge on the Delmarva Peninsula at the peak of migration season. View endangered fox squirrels, waterfowl, hawks and eagles. Bring binoculars and a bag lunch. Dress for the weather. This trip for adults is from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. and sponsored by Ellanor C. Lawrence Park. The van leaves from Packard Center in Annandale District Park. Prepaid reservations are required by November 7. The fee is $25 per person. Call 703-631-0013 to reserve. Ponderings: Fauna Fright Come to Hidden Pond Nature Center from 4:30 to 6 p.m. to prove that Friday the 13th superstitions are nonsense. Naturalist Brian promises to break a mirror, walk under a ladder and toss away his rabbit’s foot as a prelude to this program on scary critters. Then he’ll introduce animals found at Hidden Pond Park that have inspired fear in some people. The program is perfect for 6 to 12-year-olds and includes a walk and lots of fun. Have fun with games, stories and a warm fire as we talk about squirrels, chipmunks, bunnies and other forest friends getting ready for winter at Riverbend Visitor Center from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. This activity is perfect for the entire family to do together. Come early if you want to bring a picnic or hotdogs. Bring toasting sticks, blanket and flashlight. S’mores will be provided. The cost is $4 per person.
