Watercolor Workshop: Painting Trees In this watercolor workshop at Green Spring Gardens learn techniques for painting foliage, trunks and branches in watercolor for a variety of types of trees. From 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. artist Carolyn Grossé Gawarecki demonstrates uses of color in spring, summer, and fall; painting trees with and without foliage; textures for trunks and foliage; and recognition of different tree silhouettes. Carolyn assists artists as they paint and provides a critique. This class is geared to intermediate artists and beginners with some experience. Bring a bag lunch. The fee is $65 per person. Under the watchful eye of our expert instructors, experience the work and the satisfaction felt by 18th century cooks. Roast a turkey over an open fire, glaze yams and bake dessert in a Dutch oven. Learn basic fire-building skills and use of period tools. The fee is $55 per cook which includes all supplies. This activity is recommended for chefs 12 years and up. Glimpse the daily routine of the soldiers who once camped at Walney and in Centreville. Tea Gowns The ritual of a ladies’ afternoon tea provided the perfect setting to demonstrate the new freedom in women’s fashion for the sophisticated elite in the late 19th century. The flowing lines of tea gowns allowed the hostess and her guests to go without a corset for the first time in centuries and paved the way for more casual dress codes.
