Park Authority Anniversaries in 2012

It’s fun to see where you’ve been. Park Authority anniversaries in 2012 include the 30th anniversary of the dedication of Walney House at Ellanor C. Lawrence Park and the marking of the 150th anniversary of the Civil War Battle of Ox Hill.

-Secretary of State James Madison visited Richard Bland Lee at Sully
-Lucy Grimes Lee, daughter of Lighthorse Harry Lee, married Bernard Moore Carter of Shirley at Sully
150 Years Ago:
-The Battle of Ox Hill on Sept. 1
110 Years Ago:
-Clark House built
60 Years Ago:
-The Park Authority’s first land purchase: 16 acres that is now the heart of Great Falls Park
50 Years Ago:
-4-H Building built at Frying Pan Farm Park
-Park Authority hired a full-time architect to prepare master plans
40 Years Ago:
-Colvin Run Mill dedicated
-Historic Huntley added to the National Register of Historic Places
-Hunter House acquired
35 Years Ago:
-Colvin Run Mill added to the National Register of Historic Places
-The Park Authority’s first RECenter, Wakefield, constructed
30 Years Ago:
-Walney House at Ellanor C. Lawrence Park dedicated
-Horticulture Center at Green Spring Gardens built
25 Years Ago:
-Kidwell Barn at Frying Pan dedicated in memory of Joseph Beard
15 Years Ago:
-Park Authority acquired Ash Grove
-Park Authority acquired Mount Air
-Friends of Colvin Run Mill established
10 Years Ago:
