Park Board: Harold Y. Pyon
Harold Y. Pyon continues to
serve as a member of the Park Authority Board representing the
Springfield District. He served as a member of the Board previously from
1992 to 1997 and was reappointed in 2007 and again in 2011.
His committee assignments include service as vice chairman of the administration, management and budget committee, and membership on the diversity and succession committee, the Elly Doyle Park service award committee as well as the resource management committee.
He currently serves as a supervisory patent examiner in the U.S. Department of Commerce, Patent and Trademark Office in Alexandria.
He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1980 and a Master's degree in chemical engineering from the University of Virginia in 1983. He also attended the Juris Masters Certificate program in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in 1996. He earned a Certificate of Advanced Public Management at the Maxwell School of Syracuse University in 2001.
Pyon also has a long history of public service. He has served on the Board of Directors of the Fairfax County Economic Recovery Commission, the Fairfax County Small Business Commission, the Annandale Chamber of Commerce and the American Heart Association. He was appointed by the Governor of Virginia in 1998 to serve on the Board of Visitors at Virginia Commonwealth University. On June 1, 2007 he was appointed to the State Board of Elections and serves as the vice chair. He is currently serving as vice chairman of the Korean Community Service Center of greater Washington D.C. He is also the national chair for the Korean American Day Committee at the Korean American Foundation. He is a deacon of the Korean Central Presbyterian Church in Vienna, Virginia.
