New Providence Park Authority Board Representative Named

Providence Supervisor Linda Smyth selected Ken Quincy as the new Providence District Representative on the Fairfax County Park Authority Board. Quincy, a resident of Vienna, VA, will replace former Board Member Joanne Malone who recently retired after more than a decade of public service.

"It is always challenging to find a replacement when the person before them was as greatly admired as Joanne Malone was," said Supervisor Smyth. "However, Ken is very talented and has terrific leadership experience in the world of finance as well as a great appreciation for our parks and trails as an avid runner and bicyclist. I have every confidence that he will step up to the challenges ahead," she added.

Quincy retired from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation in 1997 after 31 years in bank supervision and regulatory compliance. He served in bank examination and corporate application review, policy formulation, and management capacities.

He has also provided volunteer service on various committees and the Board of Directors of Federal Deposit Insurance Federal Credit Union since 1974. He has served as director, vice chairman and chairman of the board. He is presently serving as advisory director to the board.

He also has experience as a volunteer serving as president of the Dunn Loring Woods Civic Association since 1998. He has served in the AARP Taxaide program, a program which offers free income tax return preparation for senior citizens and low and moderate income individuals. Quincy has also found time to provide volunteer instruction of ESOL for Adults in Fairfax County at Pimmit Hills School since 1998 with participation in literacy.

He has a special interest in automobiles and participates on a Formula Vee SCCA car racing team. He is also a semi-competitive runner with 21 marathons to his credit as well as experience as an avid road bicyclist.

Quincy appreciates green spaces and is an advocate of open space preservation and the creation of outdoor recreational amenities such as trails, fields and other facilities in Fairfax County.

The Fairfax County Park Authority Board is appointed by the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors. These 12 appointees are comprised of one representative from each of the nine magisterial districts, plus three at-large members. The board sets policy and establishes priorities for the park agency.
