Park Board: Michael W. Thompson, Jr.
Michael W. Thompson, Jr., was appointed to the Fairfax County Park Authority Board in July, 2012 and serves as the Springfield District representative. Thompson’s term will expire on December 31, 2014.
Thompson grew up in Burke, VA where he attended local schools. He received his BA in political science from Emory University and his JD from the University of Richmond law school. He still resides in Burke, with his wife and two daughters. He currently works as the senior vice president of a local public relations firm.
Thompson brings a wealth of volunteer experience to this appointment. He currently serves as president of Burke Athletic Club as well as an appointee to the Fairfax County Public School’s Marketing Advisory Board, the Fairfax County Athletic Council, and the Fairfax County Sports Marketing Committee. Thompson also serves on the board of the Burke Civic Ballet and on the Board of Regents for the Fund for American Studies. Past activities include service as president of the White Oaks PTA, as secretary of the Fairfax County Soccer Council, as well as nearly a decade in numerous leadership roles with the Old Mill Community Council.
Thompson is the recipient of the Community and Recreation Services 2010 Distinguished Partner Award; was named a Springfield District Community Champion in 2010 and also earned the Thomas Lee Chapter – National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution Community Service Award in 2008.
