Grain Grinding at Colvin Run Mill

Blacksmithing Demonstrations
Usually 1st Sunday of the month
May 3, June 7, July 5 & 26, Sep. 6 and Oct. 4
11 a.m.-4 p.m.

No reservations required.
Watch as the blacksmith fires up his forge and works with hammer and tongs to make iron tools and utensils. FREE.

Miller Training
Friday, May 15 & Saturday, May 16
8 a.m.-5 p.m.

This is a rare, hands-on opportunity for people to participate in a two-day “practicum” and learn to operate a water-powered mill at Colvin Run Mill. This program is sponsored in part by the Society for the Preservation of Old Mills and presented by Colvin Run Mill’s miller, Mason Maddox. Pre-paid reservations required by May 2. The cost is $150 per person, includes supply fee. For information, call 703-759-2771.

Northern Virginia Carvers
1st and 3rd Sundays, June through August
noon-4 p.m.

(12-Adult) The wood carvers lend their tools and expertise to uncover your hidden artistic talent as you create a creature from a block of wood. Free lesson, nominal charge for wood blanks.

The Virginia 49th
Sunday, June 7
11 a.m.-3 p.m.
The Virginia 49th will be at Colvin Run Mill drilling and offering firing demonstrations during the day. No reservations required. FREE.

Fathers’ Day Celebration
Sunday, June 21
11 a.m.-3 p.m.

Treat Dad to a free wood carving lesson with the Northern Virginia Carvers. Nominal charge for wood blanks. Free mill tours for all fathers accompanied by their children.
