Grain Grinding at Colvin Run Mill

Grain Grinding
1st and 3rd Sundays

No reservations required.
See and hear 19th century technology at work! The miller will be grinding, conditions permitting. Please call the site to confirm. Tour cost: $7 adults, $6 student 16 and up with ID, $5 child and senior.

Blacksmithing Demonstrations
1st Sunday of the month
Sep. 6 and Oct. 4
11 a.m.-4 p.m.

No reservations required.
Watch as the blacksmith fires up his forge and works with hammer and tongs to make iron tools and utensils. FREE.

Miller Training
Friday, Sep. 18 & Saturday, Sep. 19
8 a.m.-5 p.m. both days

Pre-paid reservations required by September 4.
This is a rare, hands-on opportunity for people to participate in a two-day “practicum” and learn to operate a water-powered mill at Colvin Run Mill. This program is sponsored in part by the Society for the Preservation of Old Mills and presented by Colvin Run Mill’s miller, Mason Maddox. The cost is $150 per person, includes supply fee. Beyond the Teabag - Exploring Single Origin Black Teas
Saturday, October 3
1 - 3 p.m.

Pre-paid reservations required by October 1
(16-Adult) Taste the diversity of black teas from around the globe and learn to identify the tea styles used in black blends. Taste some treats made with tea as an ingredient. Take-home tea samples included. With certified tea specialist chef Laurie Bell of Great Falls Tea Garden. The cost is $30 per person.

Kiln Club Pottery Show and Sale

Looking for great, locally hand-crafted holiday gifts at reasonable prices? Kiln Club of Washington, DC potters hosts its Fifth Annual Ceramic show and sale at Colvin Run Mill. Original, functional and decorative ceramic pieces hand crafted by local artists will be on display. Pottery-making demonstrations are also scheduled.

Halloween at the Mill
Saturday, October 31
Noon-3 p.m.
No reservations required.
(5-12 years) Dress up in your Halloween costume, and get ready for some not-so-spooky fun! Create Halloween crafts, enjoy hands-on activities, see a grain grinding demonstration and trick-or-treat around the site. This event is sponsored by the Friends of Colvin Run Mill. $3 for children’s’ wristband ages 5-12; Regular mill tour cost for ages 12-adult ($5 ages 12-16 and Seniors, $6 for students 16+ with ID, $7 for adults)

Pairing Premium Teas with Cheese
Saturday, November 7
1-3 p.m.

Pre-paid reservations required by November 5
(16-Adult) Wine isn’t the only beverage that complements cheese. Experience the many flavor profiles of premium teas and cheeses in this fun and interactive class. Taste tea- and cheese-infused treats, and take home tea samples to create your own pairings. With certified tea specialist chef Laurie Bell of Great Falls Tea Garden. $30 per person.

Santa at the Mill
Saturday, December 12
3 - 6 p.m.
No reservations required.
(3-Adult) Enjoy old-fashioned family holiday fun at Colvin Run Mill. Visit Santa in the mill and see the Christmas tree trimmed with Victorian decorations. Join the costumed 49th Virginia Volunteer Infantry caroling around a bonfire. Roast marshmallows and make a family craft. $5 per person.
