All fee programs at Colvin Run Mill require advance registration and payment. You may register online through Parktakes Online. Grain Grinding at Colvin Run Mill Grain Grinding
First and Third Sundays
noon-3 p.m.
No reservations required.
See and hear 19th century technology at work! The miller will be grinding, conditions permitting. Please call the site to confirm. Tour cost: $7 adults, $6 student 16 and up with ID, $5 child and senior.

Blacksmithing Demonstrations
First Sunday of the month
11 a.m.-3 p.m.

No reservations required.
Watch as the blacksmith fires up his forge and works with hammer and tongs to make iron tools and utensils. FREE.

Northern Virginia Carvers
First and Third Sundays
noon-4 p.m.
No reservations required.
(12 years and older) The wood carvers lend their tools and expertise to uncover your hidden artistic talent as you create a creature from a block of wood. Free lessons. Nominal fee for wood blank.

Run of the Mill
Select Sundays
1-3 p.m.

(6 years and older) Visit historic Colvin Run Mill to learn about the milling process from beginning to end. This hands-on program teaches you how we clean, mill and sift grain using antique equipment. All participants get to take home a souvenir sample bag of what is milled during class. Great for families.

Civil War Encampment
Saturday, September 17
Noon-4 p.m.
No reservations required.
Walk through a civil war encampment, talk with members of the Virginia 49th Volunteer Infantry and watch drilling and firing demonstrations throughout the day. FREE.

Seasonal Teas
Saturday, September 24
1-3 p.m.
Pre-paid reservations required by September 21
(16 years - adult) Harvesting time is critical for the distinct flavor profiles of many tea styles. Sample premium teas picked and processed during specific seasons and from a variety of global locations in this focused, educational tea tasting. Tea-infused treats and a takehome tea sampler included. Presented by Certified Tea Specialist and Chef Laurie Bell of Great Falls Tea Garden. Admission $30.

Scarecrow Making Workshops
Saturday, October 8
noon and 1 p.m. 45 minutes
No reservations required.
Make a “friend” for your garden or lawn. Bring pants and shirt, plus an old pair of pantyhose (for head and body). We supply the stuffing and know-how. Pantyhose can be purchased on site for an additional $1. Each scarecrow $6.

Miller Training
Friday, October 14 & Saturday, October 15
8 a.m.-5 p.m. both days

Pre-paid reservations required by October 1.
This is a rare, hands-on opportunity for people to participate in a two-day “practicum” and learn to operate a water-powered mill at Colvin Run Mill. This program is sponsored in part by the Society for the Preservation of Old Mills and presented by Colvin Run Mill’s miller, Mason Maddox. The cost is $150 per person, includes supply fee. Four Floor Tour with the Miller

1:30-3 p.m.
Reservations required. Call 703-759-2771 by September 4.
Please be sure to wear comfortable shoes, as we will climb steep stairs. Second and third floor areas are not ADA accessible, but alternative arrangements will be made for those who cannot climb stairs but wish to participate. This extended hour may last up to two hours. $10 Suggested donation.

Halloween at the Mill
Saturday, October 29
noon-3 p.m.
(3 years - adult) Dress up in your Halloween costume, and get ready for some not-so-spooky fun. Create Halloween crafts, enjoy hands-on activities, see a grain grinding demonstration, and trick-or-treat around the site. This is an on-going event. Drop by any time between noon and 3 p.m. Pre-register online and save on admission; $5 at the gate.

Beyond the Teacup: Cooking and Baking with Tea
Saturday, November 5
1-3 p.m.
Pre-paid reservations required by November 2.
(16 years - adult) Whether it’s brewed, infused or dry ground leaves, tea can enhance your menus with healthful antioxidants while adding intriguing flavor notes. Join this interactive seminar and learn how to incorporate this ancient plant into your everyday favorites as well as new recipe ideas for the holidays. Take home tea and treat sampler and recipes included. Presented by certified tea specialist and chef Laurie Bell of Great Falls Tea Garden and guest pastry chef Leslie Hollander. Admission $35.

Santa at the Mill
Saturday, December 10
3-6 p.m.
No reservations required.
(3 years - adult) Enjoy old-fashioned family holiday fun at Colvin Run Mill. Visit Santa in the mill and see the Christmas tree trimmed with Victorian decorations. Join the costumed 49th Va. Volunteer Infantry caroling around a bonfire. Roast marshmallows and make a family craft. Admission $5 per person.
