Pre-School Field Trips
Planning Your Visit
Pre-school field trips for children aged three to five are usually offered on Monday mornings at 10am and take about one hour to complete. Other days and times may be available as the schedule permits. Everyone should wear comfortable shoes and appropriate clothing for the weather, since they will walk outdoors between buildings and the mill is unheated.
The
pre-school program has two par
- A docent-led tour of the mill where the children meet five puppets: Marvin the Miller, Alvin his apprentice, farmers Fred and Matilda and their horse Charlie. The children learn how the miller and farmers worked together to produce flour and cornmeal.
- In the barn, a docent will read the children a story of the teacher's choosing (either Pancakes, Pancakes by Eric Carle or The Little Red Hen by Jerry Pinkney) and explore items in the Hands-On History Trunk.

Advance reservations are required. A ticket must be purchased for each child (teachers and other adults are FREE). Tickets are $5 per child for schools located in Fairfax County and $6 for out-of-county schools. Payment is due upon arrival.
