Laurel Hill Disc Golf Course Closed For UpgradesThe Giles Run Meadow disc golf course at Laurel Hill Park in Lorton is closed for construction of the final phase of work that began on Monday, April 21, 2008. The popular, new course, which opened in October 2007, is adding professional length tees to the front nine holes. The newly completed back nine holes need time to allow for the grass to grow in fully. Fairfax County Park Authority officials expect the course to reopen by the end of June. The disc golf course at Burke Lake Park in Fairfax Station remains a good alternative for area disc golfers wishing to play. The 1200-acre Laurel Hill Park was created from land obtained by the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors in 2002 under the Lorton Technical Corrections Act passed by Congress in 1998. The park boasts a championship 18-hole golf course and clubhouse, ball fields, pedestrian and mountain biking trails, a fishing lake, historic structures, and a picnic area. Transformation of the former D.C. Department of Corrections Lorton Correctional facility continues. Questions or concerns regarding the temporary closure should be directed to Project Manager Kelly Davis at 703-324-8609. |
