Celebrating Walney through the Years
Come and join the anniversary celebration at Ellanor C. Lawrence
Park on April 15 from 1 to 4 p.m. We are celebrating the
275th anniversary of the first farm at Walney and 35th anniversary
of the Walney Visitor Center. Mingle with reenactors, get up close
and personal with animals from our visitor center, and explore the
lives of the residents of Walney farm. Play games, take a wagon
ride, try your hands at colonial crafts, and have fun at this free
celebration of the past and future of Ellanor C. Lawrence Park! The
event is free with wagon ride tickets to purchase.
Centreville Treasures Transcribe-a-Thon
April 22 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Can you read cursive? How
about handwriting from the 19th Century? Ellanor C. Lawrence Park
has a rich archive of letters and records from the Machen family
and is working with Centreville Regional Library for this citizen
history event. You can help us transcribe these documents into
digital format so our local hidden treasures can be shared and
enjoyed by all. Use the Library’s laptops or bring your own Word
enabled device. We'll provide scans of original documents and
guidance on how to read them. Adults and high school students
welcome. Community service hours available. The event will be held
at Centreville Regional Library, located at 14200 St. Germain
