Fairfax County Park Authority BoardThe Fairfax County Park Authority Board is appointed by the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors. These 12 appointees are comprised of one representative from each of the nine magisterial districts, plus three at-large members. The board sets policy and establishes priorities for the park agency. The board holds public meetings on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month at 7:30 p.m. at park headquarters in the Herrity Building, adjacent the Government Center Complex. The Fairfax County Park Authority Board elected new officers, choosing William G. Bouie to serve as Chairman and marking the first time in the agency’s history that an African-American has served in this top slot. Bouie, previously the Vice Chair and the Hunter Mill District Representative since 2005, was unanimously chosen for the post. Bouie said of the Chairmanship, “I am humbled and honored by this position and I will work passionately to continue the legacy that has been created and to ensure that we are the best in the nation.” He added, “These times call for us to be more creative and daring in meeting the needs of an ever-growing diverse population as well as the challenges posed by nature itself.” Bouie is an active volunteer in the community, as well as a senior telecommunications executive. Well-known for his work with youth in the Northern Virginia area, he is the Assistant District Administrator for Little League Baseball of Northern Virginia, was the Northern Virginia Little League Volunteer of the Year in 2007, was a Project Gold Team Member with the United States Olympic Committee, and is a nationally-ranked racquetball player. Serving as Vice Chairman of the Board will be Harrison A. Glasgow, appointed as an at-large member of the Fairfax County Park Authority Board in December 2004. Glasgow, a resident of Fairfax County since 1989 has spent the last 15 years cultivating increased public understanding and support for the preservation and protection of the County’s rich natural resources. George E. Lovelace has served as an at-large member of the Park Board since February 2004 and was elected as the Park Authority Board Secretary. Lovelace is a well-known local elected official and current member of the Vienna Town Council. He previously served in the Virginia House of Delegates. He is Chairman of the Park Operations Committee and Vice Chair of the Funding Policy and Bond Committee. He also serves as liaison to the Athletic Council. Appointed in May 2001 as the Mason District representative to the Park Authority Board, Frank S. Vajda has been an active member of the Park Board as well as an involved community volunteer since his retirement from a 28-year career in the United States Air Force. He was elected as the Board Treasurer.
