Field Trips

Schedule a Program

  • Tuesdays - Fridays
  • Fairfax County schools: $3/student
  • Out-of-county schools: $4/student

Reservations are available for school field trips, featuring interpretive programs for kindergarten through 2nd grade. Programs reinforce the Virginia Standards of Learning for the appropriate grade level. Choose from instructional programs which complement your curriculum:

  • Kindergarten: The Milky Way: A Day in the Life of a Dairy Animal
  • 1st Grade: The Farm Family
  • 2nd Grade: Mooving the Milk to Town

The Milky Way

Milk a model cow and meet a farm animal. From babyhood to milking, learn what life is like for dairy animals.

Grade: Kindergarten
Length: 30 Minutes
SOL Tie Ins: Science: K.1, K.6, K.8; Health and Wellness K.1

Farm Family Program

Through discussion and hands-on activities, learn about traditional “Farm Family” roles and how they compare to modern family roles.

Grade: First Grade
Length: One Hour
SOL Tie Ins: History and Social Science: 1.1, 1.7, 1.9

MOOving the Milk to Town

Walk in the boots of a dairy farmer. Getting the milk from a dairy farm to the consumer’s table is discussed. Students learn the process, then get to act it out during a hands-on game while exchanging money along the way.

Grade: Second Grade
Length: One Hour
SOL Tie Ins: History and Social Science 2.2, 2.4, 2.6, 2.7

Expand your trip with a wagon ride!

  • Enjoy the farm's "back forty" with a 20 minute tractor drawn wagon ride
  • Group reservations required, maximum 30 people/ride
  • $3/rider, 2 years and older
  • One teacher rides free

Admission to Frying Pan Farm Park is FREE. Kidwell Farm at Frying Pan Farm Park, is open 9am - 5pm daily.

Self-guided days are available for pre-school and other groups who would like to explore the farm and park on their own. Receive program packets with feed, seed and wool samples, plus access to pre-tour and post-tour activities and a self-guided tour manual.
