Visit our plant sales area offering unusual, hard-to-find plants nurtured by Green Spring's horticultural staff. The shop specializes in plants that do well in our local growing conditions and offers plants featured in Green Spring's gardens. A great opportunity to try something new in your own landscape. FROGS members receive 10% off plants in the Plant Shop.

DUELING DESIGNERS AND TEA
1 - 3:30 p.m.


Two designers simultaneously create original floral arrangements using identical materials. Discover how different creative styles, techniques and approaches to design and materials are revealed in this highly entertaining demonstration. Reservations required. $45 for the program followed by a traditional English afternoon tea in our 1784 historic house. $22 for the program only. READY, SET, GROW: AGRICULTURE IN THE CLASSROOM FOR ELEMENTARY TEACHERS (K-5)
9 a.m. - 1 p.m.


This highly interactive, professional development workshop helps you sprout successful learners in your PK-5 classroom. The workshop features cross-curricular, standards-aligned lessons and resources that use Virginia agriculture and natural resources to engage learners in science, mathematics, language arts and social studies. Leave with resource kits full of curriculum, books, posters and a class set of laminated Virginia maps. Free. Space is limited, and registration is required. Call 703-642-5173 to register.

NATIONAL HONEYBEE DAY
10 a.m. - noon


Where would we be without the honeybee? Celebrate this wondrous insect with free activities and paid crafts for kids and adults. Meet a beekeeper, see inside a beehive, learn a bee dance, do a bee scavenger hunt, learn how bees are important to our food supply, get tips on growing a pollinator garden and purchase a pollinator starter garden. One craft ticket allows you to make a garden marker, roll a beeswax candle, sample floral honey and more. This program is intended for ages 7 to adult. Advance registration for a craft ticket is recommended. $12/person for a craft ticket.

31st ANNUAL BEGONIA SHOW AND SALE


Feast your eyes on this show sponsored by the Potomac branch of the American Begonia Society. Be tempted with splashes of color and shape for homes and greenhouses that last long after frosts have put our outdoor gardens to bed. The sale offers a wide variety of begonias, including subtropical species. Free admission.

Fall is a great time to plant, and Green Spring Gardens is hosting numerous local plant and garden craft vendors to satisfy your gardening needs. A silent auction, bake sale, live music, food and kids' table add to the festivities. Come and support one of Virginia's most innovative public gardens. Free admission. BEAUTY IN SUSTAINABILITY SYMPOSIUM


During this half-day symposium, learn how to create and care for a home garden that is a source for beauty, labor savings and environmental change. Get to know lovely native alternatives and rethink traditional gardening practices that are at odds with nature's rhythms. Virginia Native Plant Society's Laura Beaty and renowned landscape designer Larry Weaner show you how to create stunning gardens in harmony with the ecological processes in nature. Book signing to follow. $38/person.

GARDENERS HOLIDAY OPEN HOUSE

12-4 p.m. Treat yourself to a day of holiday fun in the garden. This festive day is for gardeners of all ages, individuals and families. Register in advance for the 1 p.m. or 3 p.m. children's puppet show listed on page 6, enter the annual gingerbread house contest, and catch a ride on the trackless train, $3/person. Sponsored by Friends of Green Spring.
