Green Spring
Gardens' library is home to an informative and timely collection of over
3,000 volumes related to horticulture. The library enhances the education
and curatorial programs of the gardens and is open to all visitors. The
library is generously supported by the Friends of Green Spring (FROGS).
Located in the Horticulture Center, the library is open Monday through
Saturday, 9:00 am to 4:30 pm and Sunday, noon to 4:30 pm. The staff
librarian is on duty Tuesdays and Thursdays. On Friday, Saturday and
Sunday afternoons, 12:30 to 4:30 pm, Green Spring Master Gardener
volunteers are usually available to assist library visitors in using the
library. In order to maintain and preserve library materials, the library
is non-circulating.
In the library's collection are titles on all things gardening -- from annuals to xeriscaping. The children's corner has fun, colorful, gardening storybooks. The children's corner also contains educational materials for teachers and parents to teach about gardening and nature.
The Library subscribes to approximately 30 magazines and receives newsletters from many local and national plant societies and garden clubs. A file of nursery catalogs for seeds, plants and gardening supplies is available as well as a community kiosk filled with information about local horticultural events.
The Library periodically accepts donations of gently used gardening books. Donated materials not selected for the library collection may be sold through the Friends of Green Spring Gardens used book sale that supports library services. The library maintains a wish list on Amazon.com of books it plans to add to its collection.
