Kids, do you enjoy sprouting seeds, growing vegetables, planting flowers, exploring soil, and other outdoor fun? If you’re 8 to 12 years old, you can join this unique and popular weekly garden program. You’ll get hands-on garden lessons and activities, help to grow a special kids’ garden in the park, plus harvest and eat your own nutritious food. $140/student FAMILY FUN PROGRAMS Special programs with special prices; two family members attend these family oriented workshops for the price of one! Older children (6 and above) with accompanying adult(s) discover the science of plants and nature through lessons, activities, and outdoor exploration. Every workshop has a different finished project to take home. Call 703-642-5173 to register. Family Story Time Mondays, September 28, October 26 & November 30 (All ages) 2pm. Drop in to the Children’s Library Corner, listen to stories read aloud, and enjoy an activity. FREE. Monarch Magic Saturday, September 5 2-3pm. Explore the fascinating life cycle of monarch butterflies. Make a caterpillar cage, add a milkweed snack, and adopt a tiny larva to take home to raise and release in your own garden! $18/project includes monarch larvae, milkweed plant, and caterpillar cage Harry Potter’s Plants & Potions Saturday, October 31 2-3pm. Calling all Muggles! Conjure up some magic in our gardens as we explore the magical powers of Harry Potter’s favorite plants. Craft your own wizard’s wand and collect recipes for potions – just in time for Halloween! $18/project includes other magical materials. Flower Power: Grow an Awesome Amaryllis Saturday, November 14 2-3pm. Flower power in winter! Learn to grow a big, colorful amaryllis flower indoors. Plant your own amaryllis bulb in a container to take home and add color to the holidays. $18/project includes bulb, container, and soil. Flower Power: Grow Pretty Paperwhites Saturday, December 5 2-3pm. Discover how easy it is to force flower bulbs to bloom indoors! Plant your own paperwhite bulbs in a container to brighten the wintry days ahead. $18/project includes bulbs, container, and soil
