Join us for a Tea Topic presentation, followed by a traditional cream tea (tea served with scones, cream, and jam.)

Tea Music
Saturday, September 19

2-3:30pm. As long as there’s been tea, there’s been tea music, from the soothing strings and flutes of ancient Chinese teahouses, to the wildly popular Broadway song, “Tea for Two.” Explore the many different styles of music associated with tea. Join us for an afternoon of sipping tea and listening to tea tunes – the sublime and the silly. $20

Tea, Glorious Tea!
Saturday, October 17

2-3:30pm. There’s nothing quite like it for all kinds of things. It can warm you, cool you, revive you and calm you. But tea isn’t just a delicious and healthful drink. It can be used in a multitude of different, and surprising, ways – from cleaning your Persian rugs to feeding your plants. Find out how to get the most out of your used tea bags or leftover brew with a long list of practical uses. $20

Tea Gowns
Saturday, November 14

2-3:30pm. The ritual of a ladies’ afternoon tea provided the perfect setting to demonstrate the new freedom in women’s fashion for the sophisticated elite in the late 19th century. The flowing lines of tea gowns allowed the hostess and her guests to go without a corset for the first time in centuries and paved the way for more casual dress codes. Look at different styles of tea gowns and the role they played in the women’s dress reform movement. $20
Private Teas For Bridal or Baby Showers
Experience a special shower at Historic Green Spring. We’ll present a lighthearted history of bridal traditions or motherhood before we serve a traditional English tea. (16-36 guests) Favors available upon request. Call for pricing.

Historic Green Spring Programs

Programs are by reservation only and require a non-refundable prepayment to Fairfax County Park Authority (FCPA). A traditional English tea is included in each program, except where indicated. Groups may call to reserve a private program and tea on other days. For reservations, please call Historic Green Spring at 703-941-7987, TTY 711. Visa or MasterCard accepted.

Garden Stroll and Tea
Thursdays, September 17 and October 15: 1-3pm
Spend a relaxing afternoon at Green Spring Gardens. Begin with a guided tour of our demonstration gardens, then enjoy a full English tea at the Historic House. Individuals and groups are welcome. Groups may also contact the Historic House to reserve a private tour and tea on other days. $27/person.

Foundation Plantings

1-3pm. Lay out the welcome mat with a beautiful foundation garden. Learn how to unify plants with your home’s architecture and style. View some inspired entryway designs and discuss ways to protect the fabric of your home as you establish your garden. See proof outside when we look at the foundation gardens around the Horticulture Center and the Historic House. $27

Fall Tablescapes

1-3pm. Bring fall indoors and warm up your holiday table with brilliant golds, reds, oranges and purples. Use simple materials from the garden or your local farmer’s market to create fall-inspired decorations and accessories – from centerpieces to place cards and napkin rings – to set a festive mood for family and friends. Learn how a few quick and easy touches can produce sophisticated effects that transform your table settings. $27

Sunday, November 22
A Mother and Daughter Tea Party

(6 yrs. and up), 1-3pm. Here’s the perfect opportunity for grandmothers, mothers, daughters and granddaughters to dress up and enjoy each other’s company over afternoon tea. In Victorian times, tea parties were fashionable, and knowledge of the social graces very important. We’ll demonstrate some of the traditional rules of teatime etiquette for ladies of all ages. Have your photo taken and sent to you as a keepsake of this elegant occasion. $27/adult, $18/child under 12
