Mother's Day Tea
1-3 pm. Let's raise our teacups in honor of mothers everywhere. Hear how our annual celebration of motherhood started. Hear about some famous - and infamous - mothers in history! $25

The Art of the Faux Finish
1-3 pm. Age confers charm and character on many objects and architectural elements in our homes and gardens. Creating that time-worn appearance needn't take years. Learn simple faux finishing techniques that give an antique look to furniture, cabinetry, ornaments, and trim. An expert demonstrates on wood and gilt surfaces, with glazes, patinas, crackling and milk paint finishes. Add years to surfaces in just one afternoon - and faux like a pro! $25

Beekeeping for Beginners
1-3:30pm. Local beekeepers, Bob and Grace Parker, share stories of their first year of beekeeping at Green Spring and show us how to raise bees in urban and suburban neighborhoods. Then take a walk outside to see the hives in action. Program only, 1-2:30 pm: $15, Program plus tea: $28
Garden Stroll and Tea
June 5, 19: 1-3pm, July 17 and August 7: 9-11am
Take a relaxing stroll through the gardens and enjoy a tea at the Historic House. This is a delightful introduction to the mission and history of Green Spring Gardens, one of the preeminent places for horticulture in the Washington, D.C. area. In June, the docent-led tours of our demonstration gardens are followed by a full English afternoon tea. In July and August a special breakfast tea will be served. Individuals and groups are welcome. $25/individual

The Tales of Brer Rabbit
(6 yrs. and up) 11am-1pm. Local storyteller, Margaret Chatham, enlightens and entertains you with the classic folk tales of Brer Rabbit. Based on traditional African trickster tales, the stories of this resourceful and witty rabbit have captivated audiences of all ages for generations. $25

1-3pm. A blank wall is a canvas. Learn how to effectively display art in your home, using prints, paintings, photos, or other artwork. 1-3pm. Newspapers record our history. Over the years, daily reports about people and events, as well as cartoons, advertisements and sales notices, become the story of a community’s past. Using the Fairfax County Public Library’s Historical Newspaper Index, we’ll show you what was going on in this community during this week at different times in history. Learn how to use this fascinating resource to view the past 120 years through the pages of our local papers. $25
