SPECIAL EVENTS November Friday, November 6 Ponderings: Fungi Naturalist Brian, a local fungi enthusiast, uses a PowerPoint presentation and a walk to show folks how fascinating fungi can be at Hidden Pond Nature Center from 4 to 5 p.m. Perfect outing for 6 to 10-year-olds. Monday, November 9 Nature Quest: Fungus Come to Hidden Pond Nature Center from 10 to 11 a.m. and let your three to six-year-olds explore an easy life form for young naturalists to find – fungus. See this unique species during our walk and collect material in which to grow your own. You’ll be able to set up your own fungus habitat for home study. The fee is $6 per child. Call 703-451-9588 to make a reservation. Friday, November 13 Ponderings: Fauna Fright Come to Hidden Pond Nature Center from 4:30 to 6 p.m. to prove that Friday the 13th superstitions are nonsense. Naturalist Brian promises to break a mirror, walk under a ladder and toss away his rabbit’s foot as a prelude to this program on scary critters. Then he’ll introduce animals found at Hidden Pond Park that have inspired fear in some people. The program is perfect for 6 to 12-year-olds and includes a walk and lots of fun. Come to Hidden Pond Nature Center from 10 to 11 a.m. to find out. Naturalist Mike reveals how they cope by uncovering ways our local wildlife survive in the wilds of Hidden Pond. Build some mini dens and brush piles to help out critters during the cold months. This program is recommended for children ages three to six. The cost is $4 per child. Friday, November 20 Ponderings: Animal Abodes Naturalist Brian reveals how local wildlife, especially mammals, get ready for winter at Hidden Pond Nature Center from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Find out how they make their dens and what they use in them, and then make one. Monday, November 30 Nature Quest: Animal Evidence Bring naturalists, ages three to six years, to Hidden Pond Nature Center from 10 to 11 a.m. From tracks to scat, the young naturalists will search for any evidence left behind by the park’s wildlife.
