Bookworms - Fish is Fish

Hear the delightful story Fish is Fish, then go on a netting expedition to see live fish at Hidden Pond Nature Center from 4 to 5 p.m. Reservations are required. This program is suitable for children ages three to eight and the cost is $4 per child. Call 703-451-9588.

Nature Sleuth - Invasive Plants

Naturalist detective Dredlock Holmes is called back into action when park wildflower enthusiast, Chumley Bergamot, finds his beloved patch of wild geraniums overrun by some strange new plant. Children, ages 6 to 10 years, come to Hidden Pond Nature Center from 10 to 11:30 a.m. to help Dredlock get to the root of this case and find out what can be done. Reservations are required. Ponderings - Birds

Naturalist Brian “Tweety” Umanzor and his assistants take the young birdwatchers, ages 6 to 12 years, on a journey into the world of our local bird species with a short talk and walk at Hidden Pond Nature Center from 3:30 to 5 p.m. He demonstrates various bird calls to show how you might attract birds. Nature Nook with a Book: Crustaceans of Land and Water

Hidden Pond’s naturalist visits the Richard Byrd Library from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. for a free, all-ages program that focuses on crustaceans. Librarians recommend books to fit the subject. Call 703-451-8055 reserve.

The heat of summer means most folks stay out of the forest, but not our naturalist or other wildlife lovers. Now is the time reptiles and other creatures like best.
