Camp Grounds

Lake Fairfax Park
[ 1400 Lake Fairfax Drive ] [ Reston, VA 20190 ] [ 703-471-5414 ]

Under ConstructionDue to field closures and campground closures for construction projects and a large scale bike race on December 4, the park main road will have lengthy road closures on December 4. Please note that all fields and campgrounds will be closed from December 1 through March 31 and that skate park use will be limited to parking at the lower main office parking lot and walking to the skate park during this time.

Update - Three Construction Projects at Lake Fairfax

The "C" Campground bathhouse and "B" bathroom in the Large Shelter are currently closed due to construction. Portable toilets are available and the bathhouse in the family camping area is open for shower and bathroom use as is the bathroom in the main office. The expected construction completion date is March 31, 2017.

During Colvin Run restoration, September 6, 2016 through May 26, 2017, the free day picnic area will be closed as well as picnic areas A, B, C and D and the cross-country course. Free picnic areas have been relocated near the main office and front of the park. Please call the site for specific locations. From December 1, 2016 through March 31, 2017, the campground and access to the upper half of the park, including fields and trailheads, will be closed. We are not accepting field use reservations or camping reservations during these dates.

Public access to the park will continue to be from Lake Fairfax Drive to the main park entrance for the duration of these projects. We apologize for any inconvenience. For more information about the work at Lake Fairfax Park on a stream restoration project, a bridge replacement project, and the ADA replacement of bathhouse "C" and restroom "B" project, visit

TO SIGHTSEE, RIDE THE RAILS:

  • Metrorail is the quick and easy way to get to the attractions in D.C., suburban Maryland and Alexandria. From Lake Fairfax Park the closest stops are the Vienna, Dunn Loring, or West Falls Church stations, each about 10 miles distant. Directions to the nearest Metro stop and maps of the local area are available at the park office. (Please note, public transportation is not available from the campgrounds.)

ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS:

  • You may bring your own firewood but because of several wood-boring bugs that threaten local trees, we ask that you only bring firewood that is from the local D.C. area. We also ask that you burn all your firewood, or give it to a camper still in the campground.
  • During winter months, snow and icy conditions may temporarily prevent passage on park roads. It is advisable to remain in the campground until staff can treat the roads or be prepared with a four-wheel drive vehicle. Watch the weather closely and be fully prepared.
  • During summer months, be prepared for very hot and humid conditions. Stay hydrated, locate a shady setting for cool down purposes, and wear sunblock.
  • The spring and fall months are the premier time to camp in the Washington, DC area. The capital celebrates with the Cherry Blossom Festival during the spring. Plan ahead and make a reservation as this is one of our busiest seasons.

CANCELLATION POLICY:

  • In order to receive a refund for a reservation, all cancellations must be requested at least two (2) weeks before your arrival date.

The star attraction at Lake Fairfax Park is the Water Mine Family Swimmin' Hole, a western theme activity pool with an acre of interactive play features, including Rattlesnake River, Box Canyon Crossing, slides and flumes - all designed with kids in mind. In addition, the park has an 18 acre lake with pedal boat rentals, tour boat rides and fishing in both the lake and seasonally-stocked trout stream.
