Mason District Fest Focuses on Our Community, Our WorldLive entertainment, crafts, hayrides, pony rides and a moonbounce are just some of the fun to be had at this year's Mason District Park Festival on Saturday, September 30, 2006, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fun seekers can enjoy numerous children's rides and police and fire demonstrations too.

This year's theme, 'Our Community, Our World,' will be reflected in the live entertainment featured at the festival. Diverse entertainment includes Squeeze Bayou, the Stephen Samuel Band, Dixieland Express, the Moonlighters, Yarawi and the Washington DC Falun Dafa. The following performances are scheduled for this year's festival:

  • 10 am - Squeeze Bayou: Squeeze Bayou Cajun Band, based in the D.C. area, plays traditional Cajun and zydeco dance music from Southwestern Louisiana, specializing in two steps and waltzes. Their music reflects a blend of many styles including country music, blues and Creole.
  • 11 am - Stephen Samuel Band: Everything with a Caribbean flavor! The Stephen Samuel Band plays soca, calypso and reggae dance music and more
  • 12:15 pm - Dixieland Express: This seven-piece group is a successor to the Creole Dixie Band. Encouraging audience participation in sing alongs is their band tradition.
  • 1:15 pm - The Moonlighters: Since 1990, The Moonlighters have been one of the region's best-loved groups for Motown music. Critically-acclaimed, they have performed an unprecedented seven times at The Kennedy Center, among other prestigious venues.
  • 2:15 pm - Yarawi: (Yarawi: Art of the Andes) is a folk group that plays traditional Andean music with a commitment to the preservation of the art and culture of the ancient and still vibrant heritage of the Quechua and Aymara people. Yarawi means "song of the corn" in Aymara, the language of the Pre-Inca civilization.
  • 3:15 pm - The Washington DC Falun Dafa: The Falun Dafa Chinese Dance and Music captures 5,000 years of Chinese history and culture through dance and music and blends those sounds and movements in the melting pot of American performing arts.

Admission to the festival is free and tickets can be purchased for individual rides. In case of inclement weather, a raindate has been set for Sunday, October 1, 2006, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mason District Park is located at 6621 Columbia Pike in Annandale, Virginia. Directions are as follows: Beltway Exit 52B (Little River Turnpike, Rt. 236) east two miles to left at John Marr Drive to right onto Columbia Pike to park entrance on right just before Sleepy Hollow Road.
