Canterbury Woods Bridge

The Fairfax County Park Authority will begin construction on the Canterbury Woods Bridge Replacement project within the next several weeks.  The new bridge replaces a bridge that was washed out during Tropical Storm Lee in September of 2011.  The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors is providing funding in the amount of $302,000 for this project.

The contractor, Accubid Construction Services, Inc., will be mobilizing on site within the next month.  Contingent upon the weather, this project will continue throughout the fall with completion anticipated in the winter of 2013.  The project includes a new 60’ steel framed pedestrian bridge and approximately 75 feet of stream bank restoration.

Construction access to the site will be from the Canterbury Woods Swim Club parking lot on Southampton Drive in Annandale. Certain areas of the parking lot will be cordoned off for construction related parking.  As a safety precaution, portions of the existing Long Branch Stream Valley trail may be temporarily closed to users during the project.
