The Park SiteColvin Run Mill Historic Site is a 38-acre historic site in the Dranesville Supervisory District owned by the Fairfax County Park Authority. Since acquiring the original parcel in 1965 the Park Authority has restored the buildings and operates the site as a living history museum open to the public year round. Part of the park is located south of Route 7, offering natural habitat with natural surface trails. Park visitors should exercise caution while in this area of the site, as would be expected in any other natural environment with uneven terrain, thick vegetation, and wildlife. The original park site was acquired in 1965 with a Master Plan approved in 1973. Colvin Run Mill Historic Site maintains and interprets features at the site for the enrichment of park visitors as they relate to the themes of technology and community in 19th century rural Northern Virginia. The ProcessThe Master Plan Revision for Colvin Run Mill Historic Site provides a balance between resource protection and interpretation, as well as issues identified by the public related to master planning this park. The planning process took into account public access and site assets, as well as constraints while evaluating alternatives to determine the best possible option. More information on the Master Plan process can be found by visiting the Park Planning and Development homepage. From this process, the Park Authority created a draft master plan revision for Colvin Run Mill Historic Site, which was available for review from this website, and from the Fairfax County Park Authority at the Herrity Building, 12055 Government Center Parkway, Suite 406. Comments on the plan were received by the Park Authority for 30 days after the public comment meeting. The public comment period closed on Friday, July 25, 2008. Comments were accepted via mail, email, and phone. After all comments had been considered, the plan was presented to the Park Authority Board for final approval. For more information contact the Park Authority Public Information Office at 703-324-8662. The Future ParkAlthough park planning was complete in 2008, no determination has been made as to when improvements will be implemented. Current park bond and Work Programs do not include funding for design or construction within Colvin Run Mill Historic Site. Site design, construction timing, and funding are determined by the Park Authority Board through adoption of the Capital Improvement Program. In some cases, money proffered from other developments may be available to provide park improvements. Maps |
