CCT Renovations Begin in Pohick Stream Valley


The Fairfax County Park Authority will soon begin making renovations to the Cross County Trail in the Pohick Stream Valley Park. The 2008 Park Bond will provide funding in the amount of $138,300 for this project.

The contractor, Finley Asphalt, will be mobilizing on site within the next month.  Contingent on the weather, this project will continue throughout the fall with completion anticipated by early spring 2014. The extension and widening of four existing fairweather crossing ramps, the construction of approximately 200 feet of concrete trail, and the replacement of one existing culvert are planned. In addition, approximately 4,600 feet of existing gravel trail will be renovated with an asphalt surface as part of this project.

Construction access to the site will be from the park entrance at Wadebrook Terrace and Pohick Road. Parking restrictions near the entrances are anticipated in order to facilitate the passage of construction materials and equipment. In addition, construction equipment will be present on the trail in the Pohick Stream Valley Park during construction. As a safety precaution, portions of the existing trail may be occasionally closed to users during the project.
