In April 2004, Fairfax County Park Authority opened Wakefield Skatepark, its first, next to the Audrey Moore RECenter. As popularity grows, county residents have continued to request more opportunities for the area’s youth – and young-at-heart – to practice their skateboard, in-line skate, and BMX skills. The Park Authority constantly seeks creative opportunities to meet the demand, whether it’s by expanding existing facilities, creating new skateparks, developing smaller “skate spots”, or repurposing lesser used facilities to meet skaters’ needs.

This web page provides a list of our current projects and some useful links related to our skateparks.

Wakefield Skatepark

Wakefield Skatepark is the Park Authority's first skatepark. Located next to Audrey Moore RECenter, Wakefield Skatepark offers Freestyle and Competition courses for skateboarding, inline skating, and BMX biking. The Freestyle course consists of bank ramps, 4 foot quarter pipe, pyramid, grind rails and a grind box. The Competition course consists of a double jump-box, euro gap, bank ramp with kicker, roll-over radius, and a grind box.

But the plan is to make
the skatepark bigger and better!

We met with you in June. We read your comments on Facebook. We studied other skateparks across the county. We’ve been working with Spohn Ranch, a skatepark design/build firm, and now we have a plan!

Lake Fairfax Skatepark

The Park Authority has been gathering your ideas, researching skate parks and facilities and working with and Spohn Ranch to develop the skatepark plan for Lake Fairfax Park. We have prepared a draft plan and are looking for your input on the design.

A sampling of comments received so far.

  • what about a snake run?
  • a broken pyramid would be great
  • lights would let the skatepark be used later
  • design the skatepark to minimize impacts to neighbors
  • can the park be designed to accommodate longboards?

Please note the skatepark site has moved within Lake Fairfax since the last meeting. The new location is more central to the park and has a dedicated parking area. See the project map links for more details.

We want to hear from you!
