In April 2004, Fairfax County Park Authority opened Wakefield Skatepark, its first, next to the Audrey Moore RECenter. As popularity grows, county residents have continued to request more opportunities for the area’s youth – and young-at-heart – to practice their skateboard, in-line skate, and BMX skills. The Park Authority constantly seeks creative opportunities to meet the demand, whether it’s by expanding existing facilities, creating new skateparks, developing smaller “skate spots”, or repurposing lesser used facilities to meet skaters’ needs. Lake Fairfax Skatepark The buzz in the skating community is loud and the anticipation is growing as the opening of the new skate park at Lake Fairfax in Reston nears. Skaters from the neighborhood and around the region are expected to take part in the grand opening celebration and ribbon cutting scheduled for Saturday, October 27, 2012 at noon.
