PLANNING & DEVELOPMENT DIVISION
Title: Park Facility Standards
Description: The Division is standardizing its facility designs and layouts using an AutoCAD format. The development of these standards will streamline the ability of project managers and planners to plan and design park sites. In addition, the creation of a uniform plan standard will make plan submittals consistent and more easily read within the agency and by contractors. Intern would gather park plan and facility requirements and create electronic files that can be easily used by design professionals. Hands-on tasks could include, but not be limited to: preparation of master plan and facility base maps, survey layouts and alternative park facility layouts.
Requirements: Landscape Architecture
Title: Park Land Records Database and Base Map Creation
Description: The Land Acquisition and Management branch is creating a land records database and base maps for each park within the Park Authority’s inventory (over 23,500 acres of parkland). These base maps, using an AutoCAD format, will illustrate park boundary information and the location of existing easements and other land restrictions for use in the planning and development of park facilities. Duties may include land record research, coordination of park survey information, database development, and park base map creation.
Requirements: Engineering or landscape architecture student or related field with AutoCAD experience, ability to research land records.
Title: : Parks Land Use/Land Cover Analysis
Description: The Park Planning Section is analyzing countywide aerial photography to classify land use/land cover into five generalized categories. Intern would use GIS and aerial photos to calculate the acreage of land use/land cover for all park land holdings. This information will better enable the PAB and staff to make decisions related to park planning and resource management.
Requirements: Geography, Planning or Land Use Studies with GIS skills.
