FCPA Wins VRPS State Award for Best New Program: FootGolf
The Fairfax County Park Authority received the state-wide award for Best New Program at the 62nd Annual Conference of the Virginia Recreation and Park Society (VRPS) last week in Roanoke, Virginia. Pinecrest Golf Course’s FootGolf program was honored in the category of areas with a population greater than 100,000.
The new program has drawn thousands of participants from around the region looking for a new reason to head to the golf course. Rules in FootGolf are similar to the rules in regular golf, but the game looks a little more like soccer. FootGolfers kick a ball, rather than swing a club, and they aim for a larger-size hole. The game is great for families and people of all ages and abilities can participate.
Pinecrest is the only FootGolf facility in Fairfax County, and it has been certified by the American FootGolf League. The par 60 course is 1,965 yards with 18 holes.
Each year, VRPS honors individuals, departments and organizations throughout Virginia who have demonstrated excellence in any of several areas during the previous year. Nominees are judged by a jury of peers. More than 500 delegates from around the state gathered for the annual VRPS conference that offers a learning exchange and provides an opportunity for recreation and park professionals to discuss areas of common interest.
