Pardon Our Dust As Parks Improve
Fairfax County residents may often find park improvements underway at several locations throughout the community. These improvements may include storm damage repairs, capital projects, trail enhancements or minor restoration at park sites. When projects begin, letters are sent to adjacent neighbors to explain the work and notify the community of any potential inconvenience.
The Fairfax County Park Authority has partnered with the Department of Public Works and Environmental Services (DPWES) to repair the Brookfield Park pond’s dam and concrete spillway. Brookfield Park is located at 7417 Floyd Avenue in Springfield, VA.
The survey and investigation phase will begin this winter or in early spring of 2012. Depending on weather conditions, this work is anticipated to last for several weeks. The project area will be accessed directly from the park’s entrance on Floyd Avenue and all repair work will be performed within Park Authority property. For more information contact Project Manager Isabel Villarroel at 703-324-7195.
The Park Authority will also begin improvements at Oak Marr Park on athletic field lighting and synthetic turf installation this month. Fields one and two will become synthetic turf fields. The contractor R.E. Lee Electric, Inc. and Atlas Tracks, Inc. will be moving onsite to begin the work. Construction access to the site will be from the main park entrance on Jermantown Road. Project completion is anticipated in late September 2012. For more information contact Project Manager Charles Mends-Cole at 703-324-8640.
