Acting Director Named For Parks In Wake of Resignation

The Fairfax County Park Authority Board has accepted the resignation of Park Authority Director John Dargle Jr., effective immediately.  Mr. Dargle was appointed to this post in June 2008.  During his tenure the Park Authority received its third Gold Medal Award, successfully passed two Park Bond referenda and weathered fiscal challenges linked to the recession.

Deputy Director/Chief Financial Officer Cindy Messinger, a veteran Park Authority employee with over three decades of service to the agency in increasingly responsible positions, will serve as Acting Director until the appointment of a new director.

“We wish Mr. Dargle well in his future endeavors,” said Park Authority Board Chairman Bill Bouie.  “The Park Board has every confidence in our park staff and Ms. Messinger’s ability to guide us through this interim period and to set in motion the search for Mr. Dargle’s successor. We remain committed to the provision of outstanding service to our many customers and park visitors.”

A nationwide search will be undertaken in the next several months.  The Park Authority is the primary provider of recreational services in Fairfax County and the steward of natural and cultural resources located on more than 23,000 acres of parkland.
