Laurel Hill Makes List of Top Municipal Golf Courses

GolfWeek Magazine has included Laurel Hill Golf Club of Lorton, Va., in its annual list of top municipal golf courses in the country. The Fairfax County Park Authority, which owns and operates Laurel Hill, is honored to be listed with such notable courses as Bethpage Black, Torrey Pines, Chambers Bay, and Butterfield Trail.

Peter Furey, manager of the Park Authority’s Golf Enterprises, said, "To be included in this list of premier golf courses is a great honor and a tribute to the hard work and professionalism of our staff. I invite golfers from around the D.C. metro area to come play a round at Fairfax County’s finest course."

Laurel Hill Golf Club was designed by Bill Love, whose credits include the Iron Forge Course at Penn National and Hunting Hawk in Glen Allen, Va. The 18-hole course is built on land that formerly belonged to the D.C. Department of Corrections. Love’s design allowed the natural beauty of the landscape to dictate the character of the course. Rolling wooded hills and architectural remnants of the former prison add to Laurel Hill’s stunning beauty..

Laurel Hill Golf Club will play host to the 2013 U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship this summer. The 88th and penultimate meeting of this historic championship will take place July 15-20. The public is invited to watch from the gallery as the world’s best young amateur golfers compete for the James Standish Trophy and a possible invitation to the Masters Tournament.

Laurel Hill Golf Club is located at 8701 Laurel Crest Drive in Lorton, Va. For more information, call 703-493-8849 or visit the website.
