Park Improvements Impact Parking at Two Sites

Pardon our dust as improvements get underway at two Fairfax County Park Authority locations.

The Park Authority will begin work this summer on parking lot improvements at South Run Park, which is located at 7550 Reservation Drive, Springfield, Va.  The contractor, Jeffrey Stack, Inc. of Jersey, Virginia, will be moving onsite the week of July 8, 2013 to construct 144 new parking spaces, renovate the existing spaces, and construct four underground storm water detention facilities, sidewalks, and landscaping.  Construction access to the site will be from the Fairfax County Parkway.  Completion of the project is scheduled for this December.

Reservation Drive will remain open for public access during the entire construction period.  A minimum of 100 parking spaces will remain available during construction in the parking lots along Reservation Drive.

The Fairfax County Park Authority bond program and the Department of Public Works and Environmental Services (DPWES) Storm Water Planning section have provided funding for these park improvements.  If you have any questions regarding construction activity, contact Project Manager Deepak Bhinge at 703 324-8770 or via email at deepak.bhinge@fairfaxcounty.gov.

A second construction project is now underway in Chantilly, Va.  The Park Authority has begun site work for the installation of a new visitor center at Sully Historic Site located at 3650 Historic Sully Way.  Work will include installation of a new modular visitor center and associated improvements.

Due to the nature of the project there will be times when portions of the parking lot will be unavailable.  The project is anticipated to be completed by the end of the year.  This project is funded by park bonds.  For more information about this project contact Project Manager Kelly Davis at 703-324-8609.
