Dedications Bring New Acreage to Dranesville Stream Valleys
The Fairfax County Park Authority recently acquired two parcels of land which will serve as additions to existing stream valley parks. The properties were secured via developer dedications and there were no acquisition costs. Stream valley parks provide green spaces and valuable habitat along small creeks and streams in undevelopable areas throughout Fairfax County. These natural areas create invaluable corridors that support diverse wildlife and fauna.
The Park Authority received 17.5 acres with the addition of this property to Wolf Trap Stream Valley Park. The property is located near Beulah Road between Leesburg Pike and the Dulles Access Road. An additional 1.5 acres was added to Kent Gardens Park as well, located at Westmoreland Street north of the City of Falls Church. Both properties are in the Dranesville District. Currently, the Park Authority owns 23,188 acres of parkland and open space in Fairfax County.
