Park Planning Division Works on Acquisitions, Site Improvements

Mount Gilead House

The Fairfax County Park Authority recently purchased property adjacent to Historic Centreville Park, adding slightly less than half an acre to the site.  Historic Centreville Park is a collection of land parcels located in the Historic Centreville area. This recent fee simple purchase brings total acreage at this historic assemblage to 21.5 acres.  The Fairfax County Park Authority owns 23,265 acres of parkland countywide.

At this location, Mount Gilead is the largest parcel at approximately seven acres, drawing its name from the most prominent feature within the site, the Mount Gilead house, built circa 1785. The site is owned and maintained by the Fairfax County Park Authority. In addition to the historic Mount Gilead house, there are four other sites included in the park that contain a wealth of cultural, natural, and archeological resources that represent the history of Centreville. Also of interest is the reconstructed Sears house. an evocative example of another era in American history. Information about the master planning process for this park can be found online at Mount Gilead. For more information about this acquisition, contact Brian Williams at 703-324-1230.

Burke Lake Park, in Fairfax Station, is the recipient of much-needed renovation work that begins this month. The Park Authority will begin replacement of the restroom serving Picnic Shelter A.   The exiting restroom will be demolished and replaced with a new restroom meeting ADA requirements.  Replacement of portions of the existing underground utilities such as electric, water and sanitary will also be performed.  Funding for this project is provided by the General County Construction Fund.  For more information, contact Project Manager Colleen Regotti at 703-324-8697.
