PACT Program Concludes Successful Summer Season

PACT Program Ends Drawing

PACT exists to change the lives of children living in homeless shelters and transitional housing and facing a long and boring summer on the streets or in impersonal shelters. Through PACT (Parks and Community Together), the Fairfax County Park Authority gives these children free summer camp opportunities. Since 1997, PACT, in partnership with the county's homeless shelters and generous private sector sponsors, has provided summer fun and education for over 536 children, ages 3 to 15.

This past summer, PACT successfully integrated 36 children from local shelters into Park Authority camp programs ranging from swimming to drama.

Partners included Alexandria's Mondloch House, Fairfax's Bethany Home, New Hope Housing, and Good Shepherd Housing and Family Services. These organizations have come to depend on this program during the summer months for their children and their parents. The benefits of this camp experience goes beyond the wonderful adventures and nurturing times the children receive. This camp also provides an opportunity for parents to seek employment or learn valuable skills without having to worry about childcare.

PACT is fully funded through contributions from local businesses, foundations and individual donors. This year, over $51,000 was raised with 100% of all contributions directly supporting children in summer camps.

PACT 2013 was made possible through generous contributions from: Ace Info Solutions, Inc., the Allegis Group; BB&T Branch Banking & Trust Co. of Virginia; Data Tactics Corporation; GFWC Western Fairfax County Women's Club; Innovations Group; Mars Incorporated; Noblis; the Northern Virginia Ethical Society; Rosenthal Automotive Organization; Thompson Hospitality; USA Mobility Wireless, Inc.; Volkswagen Group of America; Washington Gas; The Claude Moore Charitable Foundation; and Mr. and Mrs. Wilkes.

The number of children served corresponds directly to the amount of contributions received by PACT. If you or your company wishes to help support PACT 2014, please contact Sousan Frankeberger at 703-324-8566.
