The Fairfax County
Park Authority is pleased to announce that the Lowe’s Charitable and
Educational Foundation has awarded $25,000 to the Fairfax County Park
Foundation for Chessie’s Big Backyard, a fully accessible playground in
the Family Recreation
Area at Lee District
Park. The playground is a one-of-a-kind play area where all
children can play and interact regardless of abilities. The first section
of the playground officially opened June 16, 2012 and employees from the
Lowe’s store located in Alexandria, VA participated in the event.
“Lowe’s is committed to recognizing and supporting efforts that enrich the lives of our neighbors and customers,” said Marshall Croom, chairman of the Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation. “By supporting organizations like the Fairfax County Park Foundation, we believe we are contributing to a cause that’s important to our customers and employees and helping build a stronger foundation for our communities.”
Since its inception in 1957, Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation and area stores have helped communities nationwide through employee volunteerism and financial contributions. In 2011, they contributed more than $32 million to support communities in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
