FCPA Honored for Class and Summer Camp Summits
The Fairfax County Park Authority (FCPA) was recently honored by the Learning Resources Network (LERN) with a 2013 LERN International Award in the category of Best Management Practice for its Class and Summer Camp Summits. Award winning programs must be cutting edge in the field of lifelong learning and award criteria include originality, innovation, appropriateness and adaptability and measurable outcomes.
The Fairfax County Park Authority offers more than 12,000 recreational classes and 1,000 sessions of summer camps at 150 locations each year including RECenters, nature centers, parks, schools and private business locations.
The Class and Summer Camp Summits bring together over 60 agency staff and partners from across Fairfax County to make use of customer feedback to improve service. The summits draw from an online class evaluation system now in operation for its fourth year that has collected more than 20,000 customer responses evaluating over 700 program titles. What is unique is that instead of the traditional point in time snapshot survey, the online class evaluation system is ongoing, conducted every quarter giving staff the opportunity to see trends and more quickly target areas needing improvement. In addition to ratings, the online evaluations are a gold mine of customer comments for program managers to use in refining service delivery.
The award will be presented at the LERN annual conference this November in Washington, DC. LERN, an international association of lifelong learning programming, has more than 4,000 members representing 1,500 organizations in 16 countries.
