TextNew Playground to Open at Oakton Community Park Saturday
The Fairfax County Park
Authority will open a new playground this Saturday, November 17,
2012 at 1 p.m. at Oakton Community Park. The 1,300
square foot playground features a play system appropriate for children
ages 2 to 12. A new concrete trail from the existing parking lot at the
historic Oakton Schoolhouse has been completed as well and serves as an
accessible pathway to the playground.
Oakton Community Park is a work in progress with the second phase of the park’s master plan still to be funded. However, Providence District Supervisor Linda Smyth identified proffer funding which was available in order to construct the playground and trail. Project costs were $109,000.
Brief ribbon cutting ceremonies this Saturday will feature remarks from local officials. Oakton Community Park is located at 2841 Hunter Mill Road in Oakton, VA. Due to limited parking onsite, attendees are asked to walk to the neighborhood park or carpool. For more information contact the Public Information Office at 703-324-8662.
