Lake Accotink Hosts Wilderness Survival Camp

Lake Accotink Hosts Wilderness Survival Camp

Two Fairfax County Park Authority parks are teaming up to offer kids an opportunity to be part of an adventurous camp in Springfield this summer.

Hidden Pond Nature Center Naturalist Kyle Hughes-Segroves is taking his talent for fun and adventure to Lake Accotink Park to lead 8-to-12 year-olds through Wilderness Survival Camp.

This is just one of the dozens of camps for 5-to-15 year-old children that Lake Accotink hosts this summer.

Wilderness Survival has been one of Hidden Pond’s most popular hands-on nature experience camps for more than ten years. Campers will face nature’s challenges and try their hand at a variety of outdoor skills as they learn to make fires, build shelters, and construct tools and boats.  While exploring the wetlands and woodlands, they will test their tracking skills and learn the many practical uses of wild plants.

Camp runs Monday through Friday from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. during the week of July 28 – August 1, 2014.   The cost for each child is $190. For more information about the camp, call Hidden Pond Nature Center at 703-451-9588. Sign up for this program and see information about all of the summer camps being held at Lake Accotink Park.
