Rec-PAC Summer Program Continues to Entertain Children

recpac international flagsFourth of July fireworks are a smoky memory, offices are operating on skeletal crews, and children are growing fins and gills from spending so much time in the pool; the long, steamy dog days of summer have arrived.

Parents who are running out of ways to entertain fickle children or who just need some time to themselves this summer should consider Rec-PAC (Pretty Awesome Children), a structured recreation program with emphasis on leisure skills designed for elementary school children by the Fairfax County Park Authority. Kids in Rec-PAC have already celebrated America’s independence, competed in field days, and explored the world of bugs – and there are still three weeks remaining! Operating at 50 elementary schools throughout the county, Rec-PAC sites are conveniently located close to home.

Week four starts Monday, July 22, and the theme is Raiders of the Lost World. Kids will see the world and its wonders, Rec-PAC style, through crafts, games, and other fun activities. They’ll discover different cultures and customs and continue their explorations at an international feast and Lost World party.

The theme of week five (July 29-August 2) is Super Heroes! Kids will design their own superhero and powers. Along the way they’ll play games and use teamwork to defend the universe at the Halls of Justice party where there are cool games and prizes for all!

Rec-PAC gives back during week six (August 5-8). Kids make a difference as they get involved in their communities. This community service week is all about helping others and giving back.

Rec-PAC is open to children who are in first through six grades and who reside in Fairfax County, Fairfax City, or Falls Church. Fees are determined by a sliding scale based on a family’s total annual income.

Walk-in registration is open every Monday from 8:30 a.m. to noon. For more information visit Rec-PAC online or call 703-222-4664.
