Park Authority Seeks Players for Fairfax Cup Tournament

Girls Soccer Team

The Fairfax County Park Authority’s Tournament for Turf series continues this winter with a new soccer competition for youth ages 5 to 12. The Fairfax Cup will be played at Oak Marr RECenter on Saturdays, December 21 and 28, and January 4 and 11. The entry fee is $50 per player before December 13, or $75 per player after the deadline. Online registration is available. Who will earn the inaugural title of “ultimate champion” of Fairfax street soccer?

Soccer players ages 5 to 12 are invited to register individually to participate in the Cup. Ten-minute games will be played during two-hour windows for each age division. Games are organized into three-on-three or four-on-four matches. Scores will be kept, with three points awarded for a win and two points for a tie. Kids will receive a bib number on the first day of the tournament that determines on which teams they will play. Teams will be rearranged every 10 minutes. Ultimate champions will be named in each age group at the conclusion of the four-week event, and champions will hold that title until they defend it next year.

Equipment will be provided and each participant will receive a t-shirt. Trophies will be awarded in each age division. Food will be available for purchase by players and spectators.

The schedule will be posted and sent to players a few days before the first competition. Oak Marr RECenter is located at 3200 Jermantown Road in Oakton, Va. For additional information, email Rebecca.frece@fairfaxcounty.gov or call 703-324-8759.
