Learn to Make Holiday Wreaths and Floral Arrangements
As you bring out the holiday decorations from storage this
year, consider leaving your tired, old wreath in the box. Instead, learn
to make a new wreath at a Fairfax County Park Authority floral design
workshop. Another option for sprucing up your holiday decorations is to
take a page from the history book and create a floral arrangement from
seasonal materials. The experts at Sully
Historic Site will show you how. To register for any of the
workshops listed below, visit Parktakes
Online, or call 703-222-4664.
On Wednesday, November 28, 2012, adults are invited to the Make a Holiday Wreath workshop at Lee High School in Franconia. From 7 to 9:30 p.m. they will learn to make an artificial wreath with silk flowers and a stuffed animal. The resulting wreath will last a long time and can be displayed anywhere. Participants should bring wire cutters and scissors. The cost is $35 per person. Lee High School is located at 6540 Franconia Road in Springfield, Va.
Green Spring Gardens is holding a
wreath-making workshop on Saturday, December 1, from 1 to
3:15 p.m. Participants will create a beautiful wreath to take home
for their door after Northern Virginia Community College instructor Bruce
Nash demonstrates the dazzling possibilities. Greens, cones and forms
will be provided. Participants are asked to bring pruners and gloves. The
cost is $35 per person, and there is a $20 supply fee. For information,
call 703-642-5173. Green Spring
Gardens is located at 4603 Green Spring Road in Alexandria,
Va.
And finally, adults
can attend Sully Historic
Site’s
Colonial Flower Workshop on Tuesday, December 4, from 3 to 5
p.m. The wife of Northern Virginia’s first congressman, Richard Bland
Lee wrote in 1795 about her love for gardening. In this workshop,
participants create floral works of art to enjoy throughout the holidays.
Fresh and dried flowers as well as seasonal materials will be provided.
The class is taught by a professional florist. The cost is $45 per
person. Sully Historic Site
is located at 3650 Historic Sully Way in Chantilly, Va. For more
information, call 703-437-1794.
