Mount Vernon RECenter Joins in National Skating Month Celebration

Mount Vernon Ice ShowMount Vernon RECenter  is joining in the national celebration of the 14th annual National Skating Month coming this January 2014.  Sponsored by U.S. Figure Skating, the celebration encourages skating facilities to increase awareness and participation in on-ice skating programs.

Following the 2002 Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City, thousands of people took to the ice. Skating clubs experienced membership increases of 10 to as much as 50 percent.  Over the last 18 years, U.S. Figure Skating has enjoyed consistent growth through programs that provide opportunities for all ages. During the 2001-02 seasons, U.S. Figure Skating’s Basic Skills Program reached a milestone by registering more than 100,000 members for the first time in the program’s history. Since its inception in 1985, the program has taught more than two million people to skate.

What this celebration means for local skaters is remarkable savings on skate passes (PUBLIC SESSION) on sale January 1 through February 14, 2014.  Purchase a discounted skate book and save 15%.  Passes can be purchased at the RECenter or at Passes Online. For more information about the many classes and programs offered, visit them at Mount Vernon RECenter Ice Arena.
