Stargazers to Study Jupiter at Riverbend’s Night Sky Festival
Jupiter, the fifth planet from the
sun in our solar system and one of the brightest objects in the night
sky, will be featured during a special astronomy event at Riverbend Park on Saturday, December
1, 2012. Astronomy enthusiasts will gather at the park from 5:30
to 7:30 p.m. to enjoy guided stargazing and other activities.
Riverbend Park, located along the bluffs
of the Potomac River in Great Falls, Va., is one of the best places to
study the night sky in the D.C. metro area. Attendees at the Night Sky
Festival will be amazed by the stars and planets they can see through
powerful telescopes. Due to the low amount of light pollution in the
area, viewing the sky with just the naked eye can be spectacular, too.
Families will enjoy hearing ancient stories about the constellations as they huddle around a warm campfire. Other activities and games will be ongoing throughout the evening. Hot chocolate and other snacks will be available for purchase. Admission is $5 per person. As this event takes place outdoors, participants are advised to dress for the weather.
Riverbend Park is located at 8700 Potomac Hills Street in Great Falls, Va.
