Just Click to Explore Fairfax County History
The Fairfax County Park Authority has an online poster that can tweak an interest in local history.
Click on the
Historic Treasures Poster. With a roll of your mouse
over the pictures, you’ll learn about sewing materials from the early
1700s, see the Walney House keystone from the late 1700s, find out how
the owners of wine bottles were identified, and read about a nearby
lodging that the Alexandria Gazette in 1865 called “one of the finest
roadside inns in the State of Virginia.”
There’s much more county history to learn from the online poster, which highlights county historic buildings and artifacts. The poster reveals some of the three million artifacts cared for by the Park Authority’s Cultural Resource Management and Protection team. (CRMP) That team is comprised of archaeologists, interns and volunteers who are the primary stewards of the county’s archaeological sites, historic buildings, structures, objects or districts, cemeteries, and cultural landscapes.
