No prior experience or certifications are required.  Training dates will be made available to applicants at the time of their interview.  Our lifeguards are licensed through the Ellis & Associates International Lifeguard Training Program. Applicants must be at least 15 years of age at the start of the course. The applicant is responsible for the course fee.  Employment is contingent upon successful completion of the Ellis & Associates International Lifeguard Training Program.

Duties include:

  • Ensure health and safety of guests by pool surveillance and enforcement of park policies
  • Perform rescue and emergency care as needed (both in water and on land)
  • Provide immediate first aid treatment to guests in distress as needed
  • Maintain water and rescue skills at a "test ready" level at all times
  • Participate in regularly scheduled mandatory in-service trainings for a minimumof 4 hours per month
  • Provide exceptional customer service
  • General cleaning and maintenance duties to include locker rooms, grounds, and pool
  • Maintain professional attitude and image at all times

Prerequisites for the lifeguard course:

  • Swim 100 yards continuously using a front crawl or breaststroke.
  • Retrieve a 10 pound dive brick from a depth of 14 ft.
  • Tread water without the use of hands for a time period of one minute
  • Successfully get out of the pool at the pool’s edge without using a ladder, steps or ramp.
  • **Additional prerequisite requirements may be recommended or required.

Aquatics Instructor – Aquatic Instructors teach students of all ages and skill levels.  Our instructors provide students the opportunity to learn various swimming competencies, ranging from beginners who are afraid of the water through an introduction to fitness and competitive swimming through our group learn to swim classes.  We also offer Parent & Me classes for children and their favorite adults.  Instructors are also able to teach private lessons through our private lesson program.  A valid instructor certification and/or experience/credentials as a swimmer and coach are also welcome. Orientation to our program and shadowing may be required before teaching our programs.

Water Exercise Instructor – Water Exercise Instructors provide students the opportunity to participate in workout exercises, both in shallow and deep water. Applicants must have AEA, AAI, USWFA, YMCA, Water Art or another nationally recognized certification.

Note:  For interested candidates, certification training for both instructor opportunities is available through the Park Authority at a cost to the candidate.

Duties include:

  • Be dependable, enthusiastic and have a great attitude!
  • Prepare class lesson plans for assigned classes
  • Instruct classes for a variety of age groups and swimming level competencies
  • Provide feedback to students/parents on progress
  • Provide good customer service and communication
  • Maintain class area and equipment and clean up area after class
  • Conduct program in accordance with approved class curriculum
  • Modify class material and syllabus to assure material is presented in a manner that maximizes student success
  • Assure safety of all children in classes at all times
  • Complete administrative tasks, including maintaining and submitting attendance records, completion of course record reports, and submission of teaching availability requests
