Pardon Our Progress

Pardon Our Progress

We are excited to inform you that we will begin extensive renovations to improve Oak Marr RECenter on May 8, 2013. The project includes a new 12,500-square-foot addition and 5,700-square-foot of renovation to the existing facility.

Planned service enhancements include:

  •  A new two-story 5,500 square foot fitness center with state of the art  fitness equipment
  • A 150-200 square foot area for stretching  in the fitness center
  • A 250 square foot fitness center entryway area with cubbies
  • Three new multipurpose rooms totaling 3,700 square feet for class programming
  • A 700 square foot babysitting area with restroom
  • Updated lobby, administration area, and relocation of the building entry to improve building security/control

The greatest impact on customers will be for those who use the fitness center. The fitness center at Oak Marr will be closed from May 2013 until our grand opening in July 2014.

If you are a swimmer or a class participant you will not be impacted with the exception of a construction phasing shutdown from September 3 to October 7, 2013.  Any “active pass” you have at Oak Marr will be extended for this time period.

  KEY Pass 2*

*These are recommended as most effective way to keep your current exercise program with Fairfax County Park Authority.

Pass/Membership Options

1. Keep your Oak Marr pass active.
2. Sign up for a Key pass.  (See “The K.E.Y.” Pass below).
3. Get a refund.

We understand this renovation will be an inconvenience to our customers and have carefully planned to continue most services.   In service areas where we are not able to provide safe and quality programming, primarily the fitness center, we will offer options to continue meeting your fitness needs with the Park Authority.   Please complete the attached “Oak Marr Renovation Membership Options” if you choose options two or three  to meet your needs.   If you choose to keep you Oak Marr pass active no action is needed.

The K.E.Y. Pass

It is important that you continue your regular fitness routine for your health, and we want you to continue your program with Fairfax County RECenters.    For this reason and as special thanks for being a loyal Oak Marr pass holder, we will be issuing a “K.E.Y.” pass to all eligible customers and pass holders who choose option two.  The “K.E.Y.” pass is intended for those who want and need access to the amenities of a fitness center since these services will be unavailable for the entire renovation.

Your “K.E.Y.” pass will help you Keep Exercising all Year from the start of the renovation on May 8, 2013 until our grand re-opening in July 2014.   The “K.E.Y” pass will give you access to all other county RECenters except Oak Marr during renovations and at no cost to you.   It is as simple as that.   Freeze your current pass value, receive a “K.E.Y” pass for free access to eight RECenters during renovations and reactivate your membership at Oak Marr when we reopen.   Please note that should you elect to inactivate your membership your “K.E.Y” pass cannot be used at Oak Marr.   You will still, however, have an option to pay daily admission if you wish to use any services not interrupted by the renovation.    Pass holders who choose to keep their current passes “active” will have access to the available services at Oak Marr.

We expect that one of these options above will meet your needs and we look forward to continuing to serve you now and in the future.

“K.E.Y.” Pass Questions

Who is eligible for the K.E.Y. pass?

Customers who currently have an active pass purchased at Oak Marr or have purchased a pass at Oak Marr within the last six months.

Where can I use the “K.E.Y.” pass?

Audrey Moore, Cub Run, Providence, Mt. Vernon, Lee District, Spring Hill, and South Run and George Washington RECenters.

Why can’t I use Oak Marr as a “K.E.Y.” pass holder?

Customers who opt to keep their passes active at Oak Marr will continue to pay membership dues.  They have decided that the services we are able to continue such as aquatic programming, drop-in classes, racquetball, etc. meet their fitness needs. Those who opt for the “K.E.Y.” pass have made a decision that Oak Marr cannot meet their fitness needs due to the lengthy shutdown of the fitness center.   As a courtesy to these members the “K.E.Y.” pass will provide access to visit any other RECenter at no cost to the customer.

If I have a “K.E.Y.” pass why do I have to pay a drop-in fee for classes at Oak Marr why can't I go for free?

We are offering “K.E.Y.” passholders the opportunity to go to eight other RECenters for drop-in classes at no charge.   Your “K.E.Y.” pass option will allow you to choose from over 200 drop-in classes at eight RECenters per week at no charge.   We hope this will meet the needs of those who like the flexibility of classes.

I purchased a pass at another RECenter but use Oak Marr.  Am I eligible for the “K.E.Y.” pass?

No.  Only passholders who purchased their passes at Oak Marr or on-line selecting Oak Marr as their “home-site” and meet the criteria above are eligible.

I have a family pass; will the “K.E.Y.” pass include everyone on the pass?
Yes.   The pass privileges are identical to your current pass.

Can one family member on the pass opt out of the “K.E.Y.” plan if it is not convenient for the individual family member?

No.  If a “K.E.Y.” pass option is selected the pass structure will be identical to the current active pass at Oak Marr.

If I select a “K.E.Y.” pass to use for the duration of the shutdown,  what value will my pass have when it is reactivated?

Your pass will be inactivated for the duration of the shutdown.  When reactivated at grand opening you will receive the same value of the pass at the time it was inactivated.

With a “K.E.Y.” pass am I able to use all the amenities at other facilities?

Yes.  You may use all the amenities at other facilities that are included privileges in your current pass.  This does not include services that require additional fees.

Is a “K.E.Y” pass the same as a RECenter pass?

Yes your “K.E.Y.” pass is a RECenter pass used as a barcode.   Each family member will receive a barcode.  The “K.E.Y” pass has been developed specifically for our eligible Oak Marr passholders during the renovation.

What if I find the “K.E.Y.” pass is not convenient for me or my family.  Can I get a refund for my inactive pass?

Yes.   If you decide to cancel your “K.E.Y.” pass we will offer you a member credit for the appropriate prorated amount of your inactive pass value.   This credit can be used for goods and services at Oak Marr RECenter.

I only swim at Oak Marr, how does the “K.E.Y.” pass affect me?

The “K.E.Y.” pass will not affect you.  You can keep your pass active at Oak Marr.  Your service delivery is unaffected with the exception of a construction phasing shutdown from September 3 to October 7.

How do I sign up for the “K.E.Y.” pass?

You can sign up for the pass at Oak Marr.  RECenter staff will check your eligibility. Your pass will be identified to be inactivated on our shutdown date when the renovations start.

“Active” Pass Questions

I swim, use weights and take drop -in classes.  Can I still use Oak Marr?

Yes, however the fitness center will be shutdown.   The “K.E.Y.” pass will provide you an opportunity to use eight other RECenters all providing fully equipped fitness centers and drop-in group exercises classes free of charge.

I take registration classes and use the fitness center -- how will this work?

If you keep your Oak Marr pass “active” you will be able to attend classes and the pool as usual.  Registration classes will be programmed as usual at Oak Marr and will be listed in Parktakes.   You will not have access to the fitness center.

Why are you only running registration classes in the fall?  I usually take drop-in classes with my pass. Will I have to pay extra if I keep my pass “active”?

No you do not need to register, or pay extra.  You can use your “active” pass or pay a daily admission fee to join in a variety of designated registration and/or drop-in classes.  This is unique to Oak Marr customers during shutdown.  We need to maximize our use of space and maximize participation to run classes effectively while serving customers who prefer registration and those who prefer drop-in flexibility.

Can I still use my “qctive” pass for drop-in fitness classes at Oak Marr?

Yes.  We will continue our regular drop-in group fitness classes through summer.  However, beginning in fall session 2013, we will run all of our classes as registration classes and allow our drop-in customers to attend a variety of these classes.   Customers who prefer registration classes can still register for classes as usual.   Those who prefer the flexibility of drop-in classes will still be able to drop-in to a variety of the registration classes that will be posted at the front desk.
