Summer Rec-PAC Staff

Rec-PAC Counselors-in-Training (CIT) Program
(Ages 14-17 yrs)

Looking for a great summer experience volunteering with children? The RecPAC CIT program is a wonderful opportunity for teens who want to further develop their leadership and communication skills as well as gain experience in planning and instructing activities for young children. Each CIT will be assigned to a counselor and a group of children. Acceptance into the program is based on an application and interview. A minimum commitment of two weeks is required. Placement of CITs is limited due to the number of locations and staff hours. Registration is from May 5th to June 8th, 2008.

To become a C.I.T., here is what you need to do:

  • To volunteer, CITs must be at least 14 year old to work at school sites. Many CITs return year after year, eventually accepting paid Rec-PAC staff positions when they turn 18 years of age.
  • Select your first choice for a site from the list of schools and centers. Returning CITs have first choice of sites, and while we try to honor site requests, it is not always possible to give everyone their first choice.
  • Complete, sign (both parent and teen) and return the 2008 C.I.T. (Counselors-in-Training) Application Forms by June 8 via mail or fax.
  • Attend an orientation at Poe Middle School in Fairfax on Saturday, June 14, 2008 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

    Directions: From City of Fairfax take Lee Hwy/US-29 N. Turn slight right onto Main St/VA-236 E. Continue to follow VA-236 E. for 7.69 miles. Turn right onto Hillbrook Drive, travel .45 miles. Turn Left onto Cindy Lane.

    There is a $60 fee which includes 3 hours of training, a C.I.T. manual, T-shirt and I.D. card. Make checks payable to "FCPA" and return to our office by June 8. New or returning CIT, you must attend this training to be a C.I.T. this summer!
