IMA Volunteer Options
IMA Volunteer Site Leader
Interested in becoming an IMA Volunteer Site Leader? Please review the procedures to create a new IMA site and how to become an IMA Leader. These steps are necessary for your safety, to assure your volunteers' fun, and to safeguard the habitat that we are all trying to protect.
- JOB TITLE: Invasive Management Area Volunteer Site Leader
- GOAL: To contribute to the preservation and management of the county's natural resources by leading, coordinating and educating other volunteers as part of an invasive plant management program.
- RESPONSIBILITIES: Applicants must commit to manage an approved site. Responsibilities include recruiting volunteers, directly supervising those volunteers, removing invasive plants, restoring native plantings and monitoring the site.
- QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must have an interest in the stewardship of the county's natural and cultural resources, sign a Site Plan agreement, and participate in three training events. Prior experience with the planning and implementation of community-based activities is helpful. Knowledge of invasive and native plants is a plus, but not required.
- TRAINING: Volunteer leaders must attend three training sessions, one for IMA information and paperwork, one plant species identification class, and a general workshop on native and invasive plants and local ecology. Optional training in local ecology will be offered throughout the year.
- TIME COMMITMENT: Training takes place in February and March. Workdays typically occur from May through October. Three to four workdays, two to four hours each, are required and must be scheduled in advance.
IMA Volunteer
- JOB TITLE: Invasive Management Area Volunteer.
- GOAL: To contribute to the preservation and management of the county's natural resources by volunteering for Invasive Management Area Site workdays.
- RESPONSIBILITIES: Applicants volunteer to remove invasive plants and help restore sites with native plantings.
- QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must be hard-working.
- TRAINING: Invasive plant identification and removal techniques will be taught at the beginning of the workday to enable the volunteer to remove the proper plants.
- TIME COMMITMENT: Workdays normally run two to three hours, but any time is appreciated.
