Fishing at Riverbend Park The Potomac River at Riverbend Park offers anglers of all ages many fishing opportunities. Rocks and current provide excellent habitat for hard fighting smallmouth bass. Sunfish are also abundant and provide budding anglers with lots of fun. Both smallmouth bass and sunfish are great for spinning and fly anglers. The river also hosts channel catfish which grow big in these waters. People 16 years and older are required to have either a Virginia or Maryland freshwater fishing license. Under 16 years do not require a license. Click here for the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries fishing regulations http://www.dgif.state.va.us/ Virginia fishing licenses can be purchased from local sporting goods stores or online at the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries Riverbend Park encourages catch and release fishing. Who knows the next trophy sized fish you catch might have been released by someone before. Refer to the Maryland Department of Natural Resources Maryland NonTidal Fishing Regulations. Jon Boat Rentals and Fishing tackle Rent a row boat for your next fishing trip to Riverbend or fish from the bank. The boat house is open Thursday through Monday from 7am-6pm. The boat house sells bobbers, hooks, and weights for sunnies and catfish and artificial lures and plastics for chunky smallmouth bass. We also sell live worms. If you don't have your own fishing rod rent one from us. Rental season: May 17 through October 8 1/2 Day Rental (up to 3 hours) = $15 All Day Rental (3-6 hours) = $25 Maximum of 3 people per boat, minimum weight limit for each person is 50 lbs. Boaters are advised to go upriver from the boat launch area to avoid the Aqueduct Dam which is located one mile down river. No boating is allowed past buoys down river. All rentals closed in hazardous conditions. Fishing rod/reel rentals Don't have a fishing rod? We can rent you what you need to fish at the park. Our rod/reel combinations are perfect for beginners and children. We supply you with a rod/reel rigged with line and tackle to get you started. All rods must be returned by 5pm. Cost per rental is $5 (maximum two hours). Fishing Fun Birthday Parties at Riverbend Park (5-12 yrs.), Riverbend Park, 703-759-9018. Celebrate your birthday by having fishing fun with your friends and family. For children 5-7 yrs., naturalist-led activities include bank fishing, games, and activities. For children 8-12 yrs., a park naturalist will lead your group on an hour and a half fishing adventure from the bank or fishing from jon boats. All birthday programs include fishing rods/reels and tackle and a one hour indoor rental. Total party time 2.5 hours. Bank fishing parties $175, boat fishing parties $250.
